LOOKING FOR A CHIROPRACTOR IN THE ILLAWARRA?
What is a chiropractor?
A chiropractor safely uses manual therapy to improve and prevent musculoskeletal problems and other health disorders.
Here, in the Illawarra, we have a number of qualified and experienced chiropractors who may specialise in working with particular clients or conditions, such as during pregnancy or those suffering from chronic migraines. Many chiropractors work closely with massage therapists as the two modalities are thought to compliment one another. Contrary to rumours, chiropractic care isn’t all about neck cracking either – while spinal manipulation forms a part of treatment, this can often be achieved using gentle methods and practitioners are able to adjust their treatment approach to suit the needs and preferences of their patients. Talk to your health professional about your health concerns to see if chiropractic treatment is a suitable option for you.
How are chiropractors educated?
In Australia, chiropractic care is a regulated healthcare profession and chiropractors must be nationally registered after completing a minimum of five years university study. Chiropractors in Australia follow a similar tertiary education journey to physiotherapists and osteopaths.
The accredited chiropractic programs incorporate basic and clinical science subjects as well as units that specialise in physical rehab, physical therapy, nutrition, radiology, paediatrics, geriatrics and evidence based practice. The final year of study also requires a supervised internship.
Mandatory continuing education is a requirement for all registered chirpractors in Australia, as with many other health professions.
